LIONEL LOUIS DE LA HOUSSAYE JR., DVM

Dr. de la Houssaye  was born in New Orleans, La. and grew up in Lake Charles La.. He attended Our Lady Queen of Heaven Elementary, St. Louis High School, and graduated from McNeese State University with a B.S. in animal science. He then moved on to Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.

After graduating from veterinary school, he moved to the state of Alabama for 3 years where he met his future wife, Geri Lynn Belcher. Dr. and Mrs. de la Houssaye moved to Thibodaux in the spring of 1993. They purchased West Park Animal Hospital in Gray.  Soon after, the name was changed to de la Houssaye Animal Hospital. He opened a second office in February 1999 in Thibodaux. Dr. de la Houssaye is also the owner of the after hours emergency hospital  of de la Houssaye Animal Hospital and Bayou Country Animal Emergency serving the Tri-Parish area of Lafourche, Terrebonne, and St. Mary  parishes.

Dr. and Mrs. de la Houssaye have 2 children, Annelise Lissette and Lionel Louis III.  Their oldest child, Annelise, is married to Hunter Alleman and will be graduating from the L.S.U School of Veterinary Medicine in the spring of 2024. She will be joining  de la Houssaye Animal Hospital after. Their younger child, Louis, has graduated from Nicholls University in business. He is currently finishing his M.B.A studies at Nicholls  St. University and will recieve his M.B.A. this fall of 2023.

Dr. de la Houssaye has been an active member of Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Thibodaux Jaycees, Krewe of Christopher, Krewe of Endymion, Krewe of Chronos (Board of Directors), past King of Chronos and Bayou Country Club President (Board of Directors). He also served on the board of directors for the Bayou Country Children’s Museum, the Civil Service Board of Thibodaux, and the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce. He has served on the Animal Control Board for the city of Thibodaux and served as the parish veterinarian for Lafourche parish.

 Dr. de la Houssaye is also a proud brother of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. As an undergraduate at McNeese State University, he served as a national officer representing all the chapters in a 5 state area. He has also served as Alumnus Advisor  and assisted in the formation of Omicron-Chi chapter of Kappa Sigma at Nicholls State University. Dr. de la Houssaye has also volunteered as the District Grand Master of South Louisiana  and Mississippi.  He was also the commissioner of the Kappa Sigma “Brothers In Action” commission. He is now serving as one of 5 international officers for Kappa Sigma Fraternity  as the Worthy Grand Treasurer.

Dr. de la Houssaye practices predominantly small animal medicine. He also treats exotic animal.
