Obesity is an ongoing problem in today’s society with many factors involved. Interestingly enough, the same factors that affect humans and our weight problems also affect our pets in almost the same way. Some of these factors are:
- Improper feeding habits
- Overfeeding
- Feeding the wrong types of foods
- Genetics
- Lack of exercise
- LACK OF COMMITMENT
The one and probably most important advantage we as humans have over our pets when it comes to obesity is that we have the capability to understand what it is and how we can try to overcome it. Pets only know one thing and that is eat, eat, eat!!! They can not reason with obesity and understand why eating habits are so important. Because of that, we must reason and think for them. For if we don’t, it becomes very difficult to change a pet’s weight to a point where it is more healthy.
If we as owners put some effort into it, weight control for our pets can be easily achieved by use of certain foods.
Remember, as with ourselves, being overweight can bring on many problems and many of these same problems can affect our pets as well. If you have questions about your pet’s weight, please call the de la Houssaye Animal Hospital.
